Real Wedding Planning Tips: The Kids in Your Wedding

Now a day's brides and grooms are struggling with the concept of including (and even inviting) children to their wedding. When we were figuring out our wedding party we had no question whether or not we would include children in our wedding party. This is why:

Meet Kenny who is our ring bearer

and Jessie, our flower girl.

(How could you not want these cute kids in your wedding?)

Attire for the children is just as important as the groomsmen and bridesmaids. For Jessie, we are considering a very flowwy pretty party dress that she can have fun in. Kind of something like this:

I am going to DIY this flower girl basket that I found online. I don't like the birds though so those will definitely stay off! I think adorned with some beautiful blossoms it will make for a very rustic but elegant flower girl basket, which is definitely what we are going for.

Now for Kenny, I really do not want him to match the groomsmen, but want him to be his typical cute self.(This little boy yells Amen in church at the most appropriate times and the whole church dies laughing)

This Eton Suit is adorable and at a price of only $35.00 who can beat that. Kenny will not carry your traditional ring bearers pillow. I was looking for a way to incorporate more green into the wedding and found this beauty online. Another DIY project but unfortunately this can not be completed until the day before. Isn't it cute? I will adorn it with a pretty pink ribbon and voila!

Now, how are you outfitting the kids for your wedding? I would love to hear your ideas!

Keep on Planning,

Hillary

We have our ringbearer, Devin, and our Flowergirl, Sadey. We also have my oldest nephew, Logan, who will be the Mother of the Bride's escort.

Sadey is my niece, and will be 5 at the time of the wedding. She LOVES her dresses, wears them as often as she possibly can, and calls them her "pretties".

Devin is a close family friend. I met Dev when I started working in his home therapy program. Devin has Autism, and will be 7 at the time of the wedding. Since he is Autistic, our florist recommended doing a fake flower bout (so if it ends up in his mouth it's not dangerous in some way), and doing a heavy duty magnet instead of a bout pin (so he doesn't stick himself while messing with it).

Logan will be 12 at the time of the wedding. I do not have any close male relatives (my parents had all girls, they are divorced, and my grandpa is deceased). We thought having her grandson escort her to her seat would be a great honor for him.

In terms of attire, we plan on putting Devin in a little tux- his Autism is severe, and this is probably the only wedding he will be a part of, so we wanted him to look dapper walking down the aisle. Instead of a pillow, he will carry a train with fake rings tied to it (he LOVES trains, and we thought this would be such a cute way to incorporate his likes). He will be escorted down the aisle by my Maid of Honor, Meghan (my youngest sister), who offered to walk him down so he doesn't freak. His mom cried when we told her all this, she thought it was so sweet!

My nephew will wear a black suit with a tie to match the bridal party- we didn't want him to wear a tux, but wanted to match in colors. He will have a small bout, though.

My niece will wear a fancy dress, but we haven't decided which- it will most likely be white, and may have some Cobalt Blue accents (one of our colors).

For my nephew and niece, we are checking out Burlington Coat Factory. They have many suits and many white/ivory dresses that would look beautiful in weddings. They have up to size 20 for boys, and up to size 14 for girls (including toddler sizes for both). The prices were fantastic, $35-50 for each; if you have a jr bridesmaid, this would be a great place to check as well. Make sure to size before you leave the store, as they don't do returns.

Another option we are thinking about is checking the stores after Easter for a fancy dress- this is a great way to save money and find a pretty dress that your Flower Girl can have fun in!
